In general, the school in UK can be divided into State School and Independent School.  The free education can be accessed from 3 years old. The general information about education in UK can be read in the below website:

The most important thing to be noted is the age regulation for school admission. You can read all about age regulation here:

Primary schools

Reception - born between 1 September 2014 and 31 August 2015

Year 1 - born between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014

Year 2 - born between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013

Year 3 - born between 1 September 2011 and 31 August 2012

Year 4 - born between 1 September 2010 and 31 August 2011

Year 5 - born between 1 September 2009 and 31 August 2010

Year 6 - born between 1 September 2008 and 31 August 2009


Secondary schools

Year 7 - born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008

Year 8 - born between 1 September 2006 and 31 August 2007

Year 9 - born between 1 September 2005 and 31 August 2006

Year 10 - born between 1 September 2004 and 31 August 2005

Year 11 - born between 1 September 2003 and 31 August 2004

If you need a place to start now or for a different year go to primary school places.

If too many people apply for a school place, the school uses its admission rules to decide which children it takes. Some schools use the Council’s rules - all places at these schools are decided in the same way. Other schools use their own rules. We are planning to change the admission rules for 80 of the city's primary schools, and for nine of the city's secondary schools. Two other secondary schools are making similar changes to their own rules. These changes come into effect for the school year September 2016 to July 2017.
