FOUNDATION (INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS) PROGRAM

New Student Guidance 2020

What is a Foundation course?

A foundation program is a one-year preparation course for international students who need additional English language and academic preparation for entry to a UK university undergraduate course.

Who needs a foundation course?

The foundation program is designed for international students who have studied a non-British curriculum but wish to pursue a degree at a UK university, or international students are looking for faster pathway after secondary school to an undergraduate degree. The foundation course acts as a bridge between your current qualifications and UK university undergraduate entry requirements; it is designed to fill academic gaps, improve your English and familiarise you with UK life and culture in preparation for university.

What type of courses are available in the foundation program?

Foundation courses can prepare you for a variety of subjects such as business management, finance, law, art and design, engineering, social sciences, medicine, pharmacy, etc. A few foundation providers have partnerships with universities and can guarantee progression to that institution if the entry requirement is fulfilled.

What qualifications do I need to be accepted to a foundation program?

                    Minimum IELTS score

                    4.5 or equivalent (4 terms / 1 year)

                    6.0 or equivalent (2 terms / 6 months)

                    Higher Secondary School Certificate

                    Higher Secondary reports transcript

Scanned copy of passport and visa

How will I be assessed during my course?

Basic information will be delivered in lectures, while the individuals' understanding of the subject and their ability to utilise the information will be supported by tutorial work and by extensive e-learning provision - which will enhance the presentational style of lectures.

      Assessment grades are based on:

       -     regular coursework - assignments, unit tests, experimental report and lab sessions

       -     mid-coursework and end-of-course examinations

What are the advantages of studying a foundation program?

Increased chances of admission

Complete a foundation program to be fully qualified to start an undergraduate course in your desired          university

A Better language proficiency

Complete a foundation program to be more fluent with formal and conversational English, aiding your progression to your desired course

Direct access to partnered universities

In foundation program you can find, visit and get more advice on the university you plan on attending during your Bachelor studies and decide if it’s the right place for you.

Reduced culture shock

By spending one year in the country where you wish to study, you are able to adapt to your new home before you start your undergraduate studies. It also provides you with knowledge about all the paperwork and formal procedures you will need to go through to study and live abroad.

How much does it cost?

The tuition fee for an international foundation program annually is usually lower than the tuition fee for an undergraduate course. The fees range between 2.500 to 25.000 EUR/year depending on the institution that provides the preparation course, the level of study, the city and many other factors. Scholarships are available for this level of education as well.
